Beginners Drawing Workshops | Levels 5-8 | Course II
Advance your drawing practice through Grasby Art Studio's progressive workshop series, designed for artists ready to tackle more complex subjects. Levels 1-4 cover the basics — Levels 5-8 go beyond the basics, building mastery by isolating challenging techniques across four core principles: value, form, texture and perspective. Each workshop guides you through focused study of a single subject, culminating in a finished piece that integrates all the fundamentals. Take only the levels whose subjects interest you, or take all four for a well-rounded technique base — each level deepens your understanding, expands your techniques and builds your confidence.

These workshops are intended for those with some drawing experience — completed workshop Levels 1-4, or equivalent experience.
What You'll Learn
- Form — subjects that present particular challenge: hands, faces, figures, horses, elephants, bicycles, bridges, boats and buildings.
- Colour — new drawing mediums including colour, chalk pastels, soluble drawing mediums, charcoal on canvas, and mixed media.
- Supports — explore surfaces beyond paper, such as drawing on canvas.

Supplies
Supplies
We provide the drawing paper and all the specialty supplies each class needs.
You’ll need a basic drawing kit, and we ask that you bring it with you on workshop days — you’ll use it in every session and for the practice work in between. The recommended supplies are:
- Charcoal, graphite & pastel: willow or vine charcoal, charcoal powder, white and black charcoal pencils, graphite pencils, and white & black chalk pastel.
- Paper: a Bateman pad.
- A vinyl eraser, a mechanical eraser and a sharpener.
If you already own these, bring what you have. If you’d like a few items or a full kit, they’re at the front desk on workshop day — our Beginners Drawing Kit covers the whole list for $88.

- $360 — full four-workshop course (save $20 vs booking the four workshops singly)

- Booking more than one single date? Add each one to your cart separately.
New to painting or drawing? Start with Drawing Levels 1-4 — Course I, the basics, no experience needed. Fall Course I starts Sept 11/13; the New Year intake starts Jan 8/10, 2027.
Every course runs four consecutive weeks — no sessions fall on holiday weekends.
