PAINT NIGHT EVENTS IN NW CALGARY | Grasby Art Studio

A real painting lesson with the atmosphere of a night out. Three hours in Studio A, taught by an instructor with formal art training — canvas and every supply provided. No experience needed: most people who come have never painted, and you go home with an original work of art that is yours, not a copy of the one at the front of the room.

We teach process, not cookie-cutter art

Most paint nights hand you a stencil and a colour-by-number, run two hours, and most people don't finish. We teach you how painting actually works, then you use it to make your own composition — and we give you three hours, because a painting you actually completed is the point of coming. At $65 that works out to under $22 an hour, less than most two-hour paint nights in Calgary.

• Instruction throughout — the instructor demonstrates each step, then coaches you at your easel
• A 16″ × 20″ canvas, yours to take home
• All supplies — paints, brushes and an apron
• Your own desk — 17 seats, one painter per desk, so there is room to work and time for the instructor to reach everyone
• Gallery access — see the current show in our Art Cellar downstairs

Food and drink are not included and are not served at public paint nights. Come having eaten — or make an evening of it: The Place and Salt and Pepper are both a few minutes away in Bowness. Cold drinks are available at the desk on the night.

Book the studio privately

Want Studio A to yourselves, on your own date? Private paint nights are for groups of 8 to 24 — birthdays, team building, family gatherings, girls' nights, celebrations — and all ages are welcome. Same instruction, same techniques, your date.

• Evenings: Friday, Saturday or Sunday, 6:30–9:30 pm
• Daytime: Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, subject to instructor availability
• $23 per person, per hour — instruction, canvas and supplies included; minimum booking $800 for an evening
• Pizza and drinks for the whole group, $25 per person — optional, chosen by whoever books so everyone gets the same

Monday to Thursday evenings and Friday to Sunday daytimes are our class times and aren't available for private bookings.

Bringing alcohol to a private booking

We don't sell alcohol, but you can serve it to your own group with a Private Special Event Licence from AGLC — $10, applied for online at aglc.ca/event-licence a few days ahead. The licence is in your name, you supply the drinks for the whole group from an Alberta liquor store (guests can't bring their own), no one under 18 is served, and we need a copy of the licence and proof of liability insurance before the event. Say yes to alcohol on the booking form and we'll walk you through it.

Private bookings are arranged directly, not through the shop — fill in the booking form with your date and rough numbers, or call 403-453-1722, and we'll confirm the room and send you an invoice.
