PAINT NIGHT EVENTS IN NW CALGARY| Grasby Art Studio

A real painting lesson with the atmosphere of a night out. Three hours in a working art studio, taught by an instructor with formal art training — canvas and every supply provided, and you go home with an original work of art that is yours, not a copy of the one at the front of the room.

Why three hours

Most paint nights run two hours, and most people don't finish. We give you three, because a painting you actually completed is the point of coming. It also leaves time for the instructor to reach everyone properly rather than racing the clock.

At $65 for three hours that works out to under $22 an hour — less per hour than most two-hour paint nights in Calgary.

We teach process, not cookie-cutter art

Most paint nights hand you a stencil and a colour-by-number, and everyone leaves with the same picture. We teach you how painting actually works — then you use it to make your own composition. Three hours later you have an original piece and you understand how you made it.

What you'll learn

What's included — $65 per person

• Three hours of guided studio time in Studio A, 6:30–9:30 pm
• Professional instruction throughout — from instructors with formal art education, demonstrating each step then coaching you at your easel
• A 16″ × 20″ canvas, yours to take home
• All supplies — paints, brushes and an apron
• Gallery access — see the current show in our Art Cellar downstairs
• Up to 24 seats, so there is room to work and time for the instructor to reach everyone

Food and drink are not included and are not served at public paint nights. Come having eaten — or make an evening of it: The Place and Salt and Pepper are both a few minutes away in Bowness. Cold drinks are available at the desk on the night.

No experience needed

Most people who come have never painted before. Our instructors take you through it step by step, and you make your own composition rather than copying a set picture. Good for date nights, birthdays, girls' nights and anyone who wants an evening that isn't another restaurant.

If you want to take it further

The techniques you learn here are the foundation of our adult programme. Carry on with a single first class for $46, weekly classes, or a workshop on the subject you want to master.

Book the studio privately

Want the room to yourselves, on your own date? We host private paint nights for groups — birthdays, team building, girls' nights, celebrations. Same professional instruction, same techniques, and you choose the date.

• $23 per person, per hour — instruction, a 16″ × 20″ canvas and all supplies included
• Pizza and drinks for the whole group, $25 per person — optional, and decided by whoever books so everyone in the room gets the same
• Studio A up to 24 · Studio B up to 12 · Studio C up to 8
• Minimum booking $800 for an evening

Bringing alcohol to a private booking

We don't sell alcohol, but you're welcome to serve it to your own group with a Private Special Event Licence from AGLC. For a private event where nobody is charged for drinks it costs $10, and you apply online at aglc.ca/event-licence — allow a few days before your date.

• The licence is in your name, and you're the one responsible for it on the night.
• You supply the drinks for the whole group, bought from an Alberta liquor store, and keep the receipts with the licence. Guests can't each bring their own bottle.
• The licence is posted in the room, no one under 18 is served or handles drinks, and drinks are cleared by the end of your booking.
• We ask for a copy of the licence and proof of liability insurance before the event.

Private bookings are arranged directly, not through the shop — fill in the booking form with your date and rough numbers, or call 403-453-1722, and we'll confirm the room and send you an invoice.
