Floral Painting Workshops — Sunflowers | Grasby Art Studio Calgary

Paint glowing sunflowers this fall. Create a beautiful work of art that captures the delicate colour, shape and flow of flowers. You will learn to balance warm and cold hues, master soft and hard edges, and build a striking feature wall painting.

In these workshops you will:

• LEARN an effective process for painting flower forms and textures
• FOCUS on the subtle tones and flow of flower forms
• BALANCE shadow temperature, colour intensity and light
• CREATE your own composition
• WORK alongside other artists with similar interests

What each session covers

• Workshop 1 — Underpainting and composition drawing
• Workshop 2 — Flower midtones, highlights and details
• Workshop 3 — Refinement and further detail
• Workshop 4 — Finishing touches and final adjustments

Working with Teresa

These intermediate workshops are led by studio founder Teresa Grasby. Teresa takes on the subjects artists find most challenging and shares the efficient process she has developed for them, worked in a loose, expressive style. Most artists use the four sessions to build one large-format canvas — a finished feature wall painting to take home.

• Level: Intermediate — for artists who have completed our Beginners series, or who have equivalent experience
• Duration: 3 hours per workshop
• Class size: 8 artists maximum
• Location: Grasby Art Studio, 6520 Bowness Road NW, Calgary

Supplies

We provide all the specialty supplies this workshop needs. You may work in acrylic or oil. Please bring a basic supply kit and a canvas with you on each workshop day. The recommended supplies are:

• The three primaries plus black and white — Quinacridone Red, Cadmium Yellow, Phthalo Blue, Titanium White and Black
• Flat brushes, assorted sizes
• A small palette knife
• A disposable palette
• Linseed or walnut oil, or acrylic medium

If you’re missing something, individual supplies, canvases and full kits are at the front desk on workshop day.
