Canoes & Reflections Painting Workshops | Grasby Art Studio Calgary

Moored canoes on a still mountain lake — the subject Teresa returns to again and again. Across three Saturday mornings you will paint the whole of it: the bright hulls, the mirrored shapes lying under them, and the pale rounded stones showing through the shallows.

What You'll Learn

• Why a reflection is never simply the hull turned upside down — value, colour and edge all shift
• Painting turquoise glacial water, and keeping it luminous rather than chalky
• Reading the surface: where it mirrors, where it goes transparent, and the line between
• Stones and gravel seen through shallow water — softened, cooled and displaced
• Drawing a canoe that sits in the water rather than on top of it
• Holding a bright hull as the focal point against a busy lake bed

Working with Teresa

These intermediate workshops are led by studio founder Teresa Grasby. Teresa takes on the subjects artists find most challenging and shares the efficient process she has developed for them, worked in a loose, expressive style. Demonstrations are done in acrylic, with adaptations shown for those working in oil or watercolour.

• Level: Intermediate — for artists who have completed our Beginners series, or who have equivalent experience

Supplies

A basic supply kit and a support in your chosen medium are required. Kits are available at the front desk on workshop day if you need one.
