Buildings & Reflections Painting Workshops | Grasby Art Studio Calgary

A boathouse doubled in still green water. Storefronts stretched across a wet street. Across three Wednesday mornings you will paint the building and the version of it lying in the water below — and learn why the second one is the harder and more interesting half.

What You'll Learn

• Straight edges meeting moving water — where a reflection breaks and where it holds
• Simple perspective for a building, and how that perspective inverts below the waterline
• Value and colour shifts between a structure and its reflection
• Windows, roofs and painted siding softened and darkened in the water
• Wet streets and puddles — reflection without a lake
• Keeping a strong vertical subject anchored in a horizontal surface

Working with Teresa

These intermediate workshops are led by studio founder Teresa Grasby. Teresa takes on the subjects artists find most challenging and shares the efficient process she has developed for them, worked in a loose, expressive style. Demonstrations are done in acrylic, with adaptations shown for those working in oil or watercolour.

• Level: Intermediate — for artists who have completed our Beginners series, or who have equivalent experience

• Class size: 8 artists maximum

Supplies

A basic supply kit and a support in your chosen medium are required. Kits are available at the front desk on workshop day if you need one.
