CHARCOAL on Canvas Workshop

Try the art of working charcoal on canvas. In these workshops you will:

LEARN to work with charcoal on canvas
DEVELOP your capacity to recognize values
PRACTICE our 5 step drawing technique
CREATE value gradations and textures in charcoal
FOCUS your artwork on any subject of personal interest
WORK in large or small format
BROADEN your use of value to create drama in your artwork

A canvas and a basic kit is required

TAKE part 1, 2, or 3 parts. All three parts are recommended for large work or for artists wanting to produce a more finished work of art.

PART 1 - Charcoal Pour, Underdrawing and Composition

In part 1, you will prepare your charcoal underpainting on canvas and block in your composition. You will learn our 5 step drawing method.

PART 2 - Shadows and Shapes

In part 2, you will learn techniques to mass in the shadows, shapes, and midtones.

PART 3 - Detail

In part 3, you will use a variety of charcoal and chalk pastel mediums to push for the full expression of values. You will attend to fine details to produce a finished work of art.
